001.Elicia and Mike

On May 23, 2010, I photographed my first wedding as the "official photographer." I was easily the most nervous guy at the event. Luckily Elicia and Mike (and Elicia's mom) are very nice people, and even more luckily, their friend Sue knows how to take charge. Since I had no idea how to handle formal shots, she jumped in and got people arranged for me. I learned a lot over the 11-hour day.

  • The light was more challenging in this room than anywhere else we visited today. You've got overhead fluorescent lighting (green), overcast natural light coming in from one corner (blue-white), and my flash (white). You can see my poor assistant being blinded in the mirror.

  • Elicia asked me to explore creativity whenever I could. I loved finding this mirror tunnel. If you look, you can see Elicia's face only once in the series. I wish I had thought to point my flash at just her to make her stand out more.
