Suppertime.

Tonight I was in Portsmouth for what may be the only time this month. It was nice to spend some quality time with the boys before the schedule gets hectic.

This was shot with my new fisheye lens using TTL bounce flash. I had been a big fan of bounce flash until I recently read this plug at the Strobist website: “Are you worthless and weak? Do you cry for your mama every time you need to balance a couple of flashes with the ambient? Are you still using TTL bounce flash? We are here to save you from yourself.” Oh boy. Boot Camp II is coming and I haven’t even glanced at Boot Camp I. So much to learn! So little time!

For most of the day I had daydreams of capturing Portsmouth’s Memorial Bridge under a dusk blue sky but my friend Raymond held up the potluck for 30 minutes cooking his potatoes. When I was finally free to sneak out, the sky was gone. Luckily the late dusk will last into August so that photo will come.

Boys Will Be Boys.

Peter and I attended a potluck with 49 friends today. We are not sure how the hosts get so many of us to attend each year, but we sure are glad they do. Naturally with so many in attendance the bed was piled high with coats. That didn’t stop a number of otherwise perfectly business-like adults from horsing around. We literally beat the winter blues away.

Again the ISO is cranked to maximize sharpness of the room itself (it’s still too soft) but even then the shutter is dragging long enough to get plenty of motion in the shot.

Jeremy > July 13, 2008; Day 72.

Every year, my friend Al hosts a summer potluck on his 186-acre property in Deerfield, NH. The property is a joy to explore and photograph. I had a number of good shots to choose from for a daily. I chose this one because it shows off Al’s creativity and industry best. It’s a fully functional picnic table embedded within these trees. The weather was perfect for a potluck, and I got quite a bit more sunshine today than normal.

My friend Glenn caught me in action today. From this position, I will swing around and capture this. (Dang dynamic range!) The picnic table is up on that rock formation, which Al calls the "Great Ledge." The potluck was held on this dam.

Jeremy > May 31, 2008; Day 29. Once each month, my friends gather for a potluck supper. This month, we gathered in Deerfield at the home of my friend Bob. His house is a converted barn with a two-story tall great room. Along the walls are a myriad of plants and artwork. I'm using the fisheye to get really close to this piece, and I liked that this shot doesn't shout "fisheye" too much. I like that I included the original barn beam, but I wish I had observed the merge with the statue.

And yes, I ate too much. My friends really know how to cook!
